My Story:
My name is Patrick McQuillan (Coach Pat). I am a public school adapted physical education teacher, general physical education teacher and health education teacher for the past 30 years. In addition I coach several sports including Special Olympics, Track and Field, Cross Country, Boys and Girls Basketball, Softball and Golf.
Unfortunately in March of 2020 life changed for everyone because of the Covid 19 pandemic. At that time my school shut down along with all the schools across Long Island, NY. It quickly became apparent that shutting down the schools was difficult for many students but it hit our special needs population especially hard.
I’m proud to say that I am the uncle to many nieces and nephews. One of my nephews is a non-verbal autistic 11 year old. During the shutdown my nephew had a very difficult time. I decided to start conducting my own adapted physical education classes with my nephew a few days a week. It was a great experience and it had a extremely positive impact on my nephew.
Happily things have improved and schools have reopened. This experience taught me that there is still a tremendous void in servicing special needs students as well as general education students. My service will provide Physical Education/ Adapted Physical Education/ Fitness services for individuals or groups of all ages and abilities.
